Water-repellent. Unwettable. Sustainable.
A yarn for the future.
Meet Predrop

With PREDROP, we are revolutionising the textile value chain by starting at the very beginning: with the yarn. The technology enables water-repellent properties to be integrated directly into the filament. This approach results in a circular monomaterial that offers maximum performance and is fully recyclable.

Predrop - at a glance
Unwettable.
You read that right: Our yarn is not only water-repellent but also unwettable. In other words, textiles will never get wet, even if you press them under water. The water-repellent property is in the yarn itself - not on the outside.
No coating, no impregnation, no layering.
Monomaterial.
No coating, no impregnation, no layering.
Our yarn is a mono-material - without membranes or mixed components.
It works on its own. This simplifies further processing and makes genuine recycling possible.
PFAS-free.
No fluorocarbons, no harmful substances, no permanent chemicals. No frills.
Intelligent design achieves the water-repellent and unwettable function without harmful additives.

One yarn.
Infinite Potential.

The scope of potential applications is limitless. Our technology finds its relevance in every context where water-repellent textiles contribute to greater convenience and efficiency.

Sport & Outdoor

Ideal for performance apparel that withstands the
wettest conditions.

Maritime industry

Perfect for textiles with durable maximum
moisture resistance.

Technical fabrics

Wherever dryness is crucial – be it in filters, protective fabrics, or various industries – our solution excels.
Step 1

Spinning

We produce a filament. Our PREDROP filament. Whether thick or thin. The filament is the basic component of our unwettable yarn.
Step 2

Function

Intrinsically unwettable. The filament already has this function at the filament level. No coating, no membrane, no impregnation.
Step 3

Fabric

However, the textile surface is still required for application. And since the function is already integrated into the filament, completely customised surfaces can be produced. Whether knitted, woven or non-woven, the possibilities are endless.

Our idea has great potential.

And lucky enough we are not the only ones who believe in it.

Why do I believe in PREDROP?

The lotus effect has already been copied from nature and works excellently, but unfortunately it is too sensitive for clothing textiles.
The structure that the TEXTERIAL team is working on, which is also copied from nature, seems to me to be much more resistant and therefore more suitable for use.

The ecological transition offers many opportunities to make North Rhine-Westphalia the most innovative, sustainable and competitive region in Europe. The award-winning start-ups demonstrate this perfectly: their innovations promote environmental protection, create new jobs and inspire companies. They are pioneers for the economy of tomorrow.

FAQs

Why is PREDROP different from other yarns?

PREDROP is not only water-repellent, but also unwettable. This is a new function. PREDROP also differs from other yarns in that it already has its function at the yarn level. This means that PREDROP yarn can be used individually for different requirements in different surface constructions. We can use PREDROP to produce customised woven, knitted or non-woven fabrics. This enables an infinite range of applications.

What can PREDROP be used for?

PREDROP can be used for a wide range of water-repellent textile products. Whether rain jackets, tents or swimming trunks. We can try out and test different applications together.

Who developed PREDROP?

PREDROP is being developed in an EXIST-funded research project at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences. The team of textile engineers, chemists and sustainability specialists have been researching the development of the yarn for 5 years.

Is PREDROP sustainable?

Sustainable or not - it's always a matter of perspective. We compare ourselves with other water-repellent textiles and look at our production and recyclability. We do not use any perpetual chemicals (PFAS) in our yarn, as these do not degrade in the environment. Production waste can be reused. We do not mix materials, PREDROP is a mono-material and can be recycled. With PREDROP you don't need a membrane, no coating, no impregnation. If you would like more information, please contact us.
